Born in Bolivia in 1946, Fernando Casas holds a doctorate in philosophy from Rice University, where he teaches. A philosopher both in the formal sense and by way of artistic practice, Casas has forged a unique career as a painter and scholar of time and the self, with work featured in international exhibits and published philosophical writings. His most recent work includes an installation of four large panels called The Fourfold, inspired by philosopher Martin Heidegger's notion of the four basic categories of reality.
