Crafting the American Story Art Exhibition

The City of Southport and Brunswick Arts Council invite Brunswick County artists to participate in 'Crafting the American Story: Art, Identity, & History,' celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Opening February 21, 2026, at the Southport Community Building, this exhibition explores American creativity over 250 years, highlighting resilience, adaptability, and vision. Artists are encouraged to create works that reflect historical events or themes, showing how art serves as both response to and record of our nation's past. The exhibition seeks pieces that inspire public engagement, celebrate North Carolina's heritage, represent diverse perspectives, and showcase art as storytelling medium. Open to artists 18+ residing in Brunswick County, with original artwork only. Optional county-wide exhibition opportunity available March 2026-February 2027 at various partner locations. All works juried by selection committee, with People's Choice Award for visitor favorite. This exhibition creates space where history is actively interpreted through art, allowing past and present to converge and inspire future creativity.

Submission Guidelines

Open to Brunswick County, NC artists 18+. One original artwork per artist. 2D work: 12"x12" minimum, 36"x36" maximum (including frame), must be framed and wired for hanging. 3D work: maximum 24"x24"x24", artist provides display stand. No video, digital, or installation works accepted. $30 application fee required.

1. Step 1: Verify eligibility as Brunswick County, NC resident aged 18+

2. Step 2: Create original artwork following size and format guidelines

3. Step 3: Complete online application with $30 fee before November 1, 2025 deadline
