Electrify Amherst & Town Hall Art Gallery Call
Two public art opportunities in Amherst: utility box painting program with $500 stipend and free bi-monthly gallery exhibitions.
The Amherst Public Art Commission is calling for both established and emerging artists to participate in two public art initiatives. Electrify Amherst, running since 2018, invites artists to create imaginative paintings on utility boxes throughout Amherst and the Amherst Center Cultural District. This fall, three artists will be selected to receive a $500 stipend plus painting supplies. The program has resulted in 12 painted boxes across Amherst since its inception. The Town Hall Art Gallery offers bi-monthly exhibitions at no cost to artists or visitors, featuring space for up to 18 objects on the first and second floors of Town Hall. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Various artistic media are welcome including paintings, drawings, photographs, multimedia compositions, and fabric works. Each exhibiting artist receives a public reception, providing community engagement opportunities. The Amherst Public Art Commission, established in 1990, promotes community awareness of public art and advances cultural diversity while improving quality of life for Amherst residents. Both opportunities support local artists while enhancing the cultural landscape of the community.
