Electrify Amherst & Town Hall Art Gallery Call

Two public art opportunities in Amherst: utility box paintings ($500 stipend) and Town Hall gallery exhibitions with public receptions.

The Amherst Public Art Commission is seeking artists for two distinct public art opportunities. Electrify Amherst, running since 2018, invites artists to create imaginative paintings on utility boxes throughout the Amherst Center Cultural District. Three artists will be selected this fall, each receiving a $500 stipend plus painting supplies. The program has already transformed 12 utility boxes across Amherst into vibrant public art pieces.

The Town Hall Art Gallery offers bi-monthly exhibitions at no cost to artists or visitors. Located on the first and second floors of Town Hall, the gallery can display up to 18 objects and welcomes various media including paintings, drawings, photographs, multimedia compositions, and fabric works. The gallery operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Public Art Commission hosts public receptions for each exhibiting artist.

Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. The Amherst Public Art Commission, established in 1990, promotes community awareness of public art while advancing cultural diversity and improving quality of life for Amherst residents. These opportunities provide excellent platforms for artists to engage with the community and showcase their creative vision in highly visible public spaces.
