Grand Junction Traffic Signal Box Mural Artist Call

Grand Junction's Arts and Culture department is seeking artists to create a mural on a traffic signal box located along Monument Road. This unique public art opportunity combines art and nature, two defining elements of Grand Junction as a city. The selected artist will transform an ordinary utility box into a piece of public art that enhances the Monument Trail area. The theme should complement the natural desert landscape of the region, featuring either the local wildlife commonly seen in the desert environment or the beautiful geology of the Colorado National Monument. According to Arts and Culture Coordinator Haley Van Camp, while traffic signal boxes aren't typical canvases for artwork, this project aims to bring more joy to the area for both trail users and passing drivers. The mural should reflect the desert aesthetic that makes this region distinctive, potentially showcasing the area's unique flora, fauna, or geological formations. This is an opportunity for local artists to contribute to Grand Junction's public art landscape while celebrating the natural beauty that surrounds the community. The completed mural will serve as a permanent installation that travelers along the Monument Trail and drivers can enjoy daily.

Submission Guidelines

Proposals must be submitted by midnight on September 21. Theme should complement the natural desert landscape, featuring local wildlife or geological elements of the Colorado National Monument area.
