Hagerstown South End Community Mural Artist Opportunity

The Hagerstown Arts and Entertainment District and Bester Community of Hope are seeking an artist to design and lead a collaborative community mural project for the 10th Annual South End Community Block Party on September 20, 2025. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hagerstown City Park. The selected artist will create an engaging art experience for residents of all ages, leading participants in creating a mobile mural that celebrates community pride and creativity. The artwork must be both sturdy and portable, as it will be featured at various local events beyond the block party. The project specifically aims to foster community engagement through the arts while highlighting the spirit of the South End neighborhood. Design requirements include making the final artwork large enough to be easily seen and interacted with by children, youth, and families. The mobile nature of the mural is essential, as it will serve multiple community events. This initiative is funded by the Governor's Office for Children under award number ENGH-2025-0020, demonstrating official support for community arts programming. Compensation ranges from $5,000 to $12,000, with the final amount determined by the project's scope and materials required.
