HBURG Utility Box Trail Phase 4 - Public Art Opportunity
Artists can submit up to 3 original artworks for consideration to paint utility boxes throughout Hattiesburg with stipend compensation.
The Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art (HAPA) and VisitHATTIESBURG are seeking artists for phase four of the HBURG Utility Box Series expansion. This ongoing public art initiative has been growing since summer 2020 and currently features 44 painted utility boxes throughout the city. Phase four will add up to 20 new boxes to the trail, creating more opportunities for artists to contribute to Hattiesburg's public art landscape. Artists may submit up to three original artwork proposals for consideration. Each submission must include a detailed concept statement explaining the artistic vision and a draft or mockup of the proposed artwork. All submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges who will select the final participants. Selected artists will receive a stipend for each completed piece, providing fair compensation for their creative contribution. The painting phase is scheduled to begin in mid-October 2025 and continue through November, giving artists a clear timeline for project completion. This opportunity allows artists to create lasting public art that will be viewed by residents and visitors throughout Hattiesburg, contributing to the city's cultural identity and artistic heritage.
Submission Guidelines
Submit up to 3 original artwork proposals. Each proposal must include a concept statement and draft/mockup of artwork. Deadline is noon on Friday, October 3, 2025.
