Maui Public Art Corps Fall 2025 Call for Artists

Public art opportunity on Maui inspired by local storytelling and community voices, with community panel review process.

The Maui Public Art Corps is preparing for their Fall 2025 Call for Artists, which will invite proposals for new public artworks inspired by stories from the sixth Hui Mo'olelo cohort. This community-driven initiative connects local storytelling with public art creation across Maui. The current cohort of eight community members, including healthcare workers, educators, students, and cultural practitioners, will record 40-minute intergenerational conversations that will serve as the foundation for artistic proposals. These recorded stories, archived at the Library of Congress, explore themes of belonging, legacy, and place-based narratives that shape Maui's future. Previous cohorts have inspired diverse projects including animated films, murals, utility box artwork, sculptures, performances, and installations spanning locations from Lahaina to Kahului and beyond. The Fall 2025 call will follow a community-centered review process where proposals are evaluated by a community panel and developed through public dialogue, ensuring that resulting artworks authentically reflect local voices and needs.
