Museum Wales is seeking artists from across Wales for a significant new commission at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea. The selected artist will create a suspended art piece for the museum's main entrance hall pillars, marking the beginning of a phased redevelopment that aims to transform the museum's narrative. This commission is part of the museum's new vision to work with individuals and communities to tell their stories in inspiring ways that help visitors connect with Welsh heritage. The chosen artwork will serve as a key element in changing how the National Waterfront Museum presents itself to the public. The commission offers £15,000 (excluding installation costs) and the artwork will remain on display for a minimum of one year. This opportunity is open to all artists residing in Wales, regardless of their career stage or artistic medium. The museum is particularly interested in work that can engage with community stories and inspire visitors. A Q&A session will be held on August 29 at 1pm at the National Waterfront Museum, providing artists with the opportunity to meet the head of the museum and curators, as well as view the specific installation space. This session will be crucial for understanding the technical requirements and vision for the project.
Submission Guidelines
Open to all artists residing in Wales. Artwork will be suspended from pillars in main entrance hall. Must tell stories that inspire visitors and help them connect with the nation.
