Orcas Center Visual Arts Exhibition Opportunities
Exhibition opportunities for artists at Orcas Center including featured artist shows and community exhibitions with sales opportunities.
The Visual Arts Committee (VAC) of Orcas Center offers two main exhibition opportunities for artists. Featured Artist exhibitions are planned 6-18 months in advance, with calls typically going out in late summer/early fall for the next calendar year. These solo or focused exhibitions run 4-6 weeks and require at least 80% of work to be for sale. Featured artists must be available for opening night presentations and receive 70% of sales if they're Orcas Center members, or 60% if not. Artists handle all transportation and must self-insure their work. Community shows are open to all island artists regardless of experience level and celebrate local creativity. These shows install on Wednesdays with receptions typically held the following Friday from 5:30-7pm. Recent work is encouraged, and pieces shown at Orcas Center within the last two years are discouraged. All artwork must be display-ready with proper hanging hardware for 2D work or appropriate support for 3D pieces. The VAC promotes exhibitions through posters, press releases, website listings, newsletters, and marquee displays. Artists are encouraged to contribute appetizers to receptions and promote their own shows as well.
Submission Guidelines
Featured Artists: Submit digital portfolio, artistic resume and/or statement in PDF or Word format. Artwork must be suitable for display with proper support, 2D art needs wire and hardware (no fishing line or saw-tooth hangers), 3D art needs own support. At least 80% must be for sale. Community Shows: Bring display-ready artwork on installation day with title, medium, and price information.
