Pirkkala-Linnainmaa Tramway Art Commission
Portfolio call for artists to design artwork for Ruotula Tram stop in Tampere's expanding tramway network.
The Tampere Ratikka Art programme is expanding with the first call for artists for the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway extension. This portfolio search seeks an artist or group of artists to design a work for the Ruotula Tram stop that will reinforce the image of the future Kaupinlaakso area as a vibrant and green neighbourhood. The selected artwork should add value to the daily lives of passengers and all those living in the area affected by the tram. The stop location combines green nature with new urban fabric and sporting and leisure facilities, serving as a crossroads for various transportation modes. The north side of the stop features a wide platform with dedicated space for art and planting at the back. This elongated space creates opportunities for a series of works. The Ratikka Art programme has already engaged 90 artists and completed 70 art projects. The tramway extension is being built in phases, with art planned for six stations in the first phase. Tampereen Raitiotie Oy manages the overall programme, with implementation coordinated by Frei Zimmer Oy.
