About This Event

Holding Spaces is an immersive photographic exhibition by Steven Hatchett that pays homage to Black-owned businesses in Austin, Texas. Featuring portraits of community anchors such as Marshall's Barbershop, Black Pearl Books, Riches' Art Gallery, and others, the exhibition documents vital third spaces that foster cultural safety, economic independence, and collective memory. Through photography, artifacts, and interactive elements, Hatchett situates his work within contemporary Black archival portraiture, honoring legacies of self-determination while responding to ongoing displacement and gentrification. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with the exhibition photographer, Steven Hatchett. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public.
