2026 Oregon Contemporary Artists' Biennial
About the Exhibition
The 2026 Oregon Contemporary Artists' Biennial, titled "The Price of the Ticket," surveys works by visual and performing artists shaping Oregon's contemporary art landscape. Curated by TK Smith, the exhibition is anchored by the interconnected themes of place, power, and promise, and responds to the 250-year anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Drawing its title from James Baldwin, it explores the political realities of post-Civil Rights era America, with particular focus on citizenship, relationships to the land, and historical complexity. A central work is Todd McGrain's bronze bust of York, the sole Black member of the Corps of Discovery. The show is supplemented by interdisciplinary programming, including performances on First Saturdays through July and partner programs at venues across Portland.
