Amy Sherald: American Sublime

The most comprehensive presentation of Amy Sherald's work to date, illuminating the arc of her career from 2007 to 2024 through approximately 40 paintings. The exhibition includes major works such as Sherald's portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama, the memorial portrait of Breonna Taylor, and the monumental painting 'Trans Forming Liberty.' American Sublime features 38 paintings spanning portraiture of Black Americans, exploring themes of American identity, representation, civil rights, and social justice. Many of the subjects are Baltimore people, created during Sherald's formative years in the city.
