Art and Life in Rembrandt's Time: Masterpieces from The Leiden Collection
About the Exhibition
A landmark exhibition of more than 75 works from The Leiden Collection — one of the world's foremost private collections of 17th-century Dutch art. The exhibition features 17 paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn, including his iconic Self-Portrait with Shaded Eyes, along with the only painting by Johannes Vermeer in a private collection, Young Woman Seated at a Virginal. Organized thematically, the exhibition offers an intimate glimpse into 17th-century life in the Netherlands, with portraits, character studies, genre scenes, and religious and mythological subjects. The exhibition showcases works by Rembrandt's teacher Pieter Lastman, pupils including Ferdinand Bol and Arent de Gelder, and contemporaries such as Jan Lievens, Gerrit Dou, Frans van Mieris the Elder, Frans Hals, Gerard ter Borch, and Caspar Netscher.
