About the Exhibition

A visually stunning and emotionally resonant multimedia exhibition that explores the many meanings of mothering, told through painted portraits and recorded personal stories from participants around the world. The exhibit features 38 faces rendered in egg tempera, a rare Old World technique using egg protein and pigment, accompanied by audio recordings of stories about the mother figure in subjects' lives. The exhibition includes 30 portraits completed in collaboration with the Sugar Hill Museum of Art and Storytelling in New York, plus eight Spokane-area subjects. An interactive space allows attendees to leave their own stories about their mother or mother figures.
