Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell
About the Exhibition
This exhibition invites visitors behind the 'seams' of Paul Tazewell's career, tracing the imagination, research and craftsmanship behind some of the most recognizable costumes in modern film, Broadway and pop culture. This exhibit is a multimedia experience in the Museum's newest space, the immersive Griffin Studio, guided by Tazewell's own words and vision. Displays of his costumes are combined with his narration and behind-the-scenes video, photos and sketches to show how imagination becomes reality. Featured costumes include Glinda's pink bubble dress and Elphaba's Emerald City dress from 'Wicked,' Janelle Monae's Met Gala looks, costumes from Spielberg's 'West Side Story' including Anita's yellow dress, and from 'Hamilton' the Schuyler Sisters' Winter Ball gowns and costumes for Hamilton, Jefferson, Burr and King George III.
