Familia-r: The Vaquera/x/o Through a Mexican American Lens

A photographic tribute to the Mexican community of Vaquera/x/os (loosely translated to horse rider), documenting the spiritual practice of caring for their horses, which many community members maintain daily. The exhibit features two sets of photos: "¡CHARRO!" shot in color showing the Vaquera/x/o during horseback riding competitions with warm colors, and "¡ARRIBA!" in black and white set against an industrial landscape when horseback riders took over City Hall to protest a proposed rodeo ban in Los Angeles.
