About the Exhibition
This student-curated exhibition delves into the life, home and art of Anthony J. Drexel, founder of Drexel University. Curated by undergraduate art history student Natalee Mayes, the exhibition uses archival photographs to show how the Drexel family home was filled with paintings, sculptures, furniture and other objects that were ultimately bequeathed to the University. The exhibition transports visitors into Drexel's Italianate mansion at 39th and Walnut streets, where he and his wife Ellen Rozet Drexel resided for decades until the house was razed after his 1893 death. Photographs and objects are displayed in a manner inspired by the way art was arranged in Anthony Drexel's home.
