Joe Overstreet: Taking Flight

The exhibition showcases three art collections from Conehatta, Miss., artist Joe Overstreet, whose abstract and multi-dimensional work spans across three decades and is heavily inspired by his personal life and the Black Arts Movement. The artist's 1972 'Untitled' work resembles a colorful paper plane or kite, with cotton ropes and metal grommets anchoring the artwork. He mixed Egyptian rope stretching and experience assisting his father as a stone mason with laying concrete and sail-rigging to create multi-dimensional pieces that emulate themes of flight and movement.
