About the Exhibition
A gallery exhibit that invites guests on a journey throughout the diverse cultures of the Philippines during Filipino American History Month. The exhibit features Filipino fashion designer Iris Gil Viacrusis's Habi at Baro Collection (weaving and clothing), traditional items and signature clothing from Mindanao to Luzon, photographs by Jacob Maentz, a silver contemporary gown designed by Viacrusis, and information about the history of the sakadas (Filipino plantation workers who first came to Hawaii in 1906). The exhibit is in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the UH Manoa Center for Philippine Studies.
