About the Exhibition
This exhibition showcases works by Ojibwe artist George Morrison from his early years in New York City, featuring 25-35 of his paintings and drawings from the 1940s-1960s. The exhibition explores Morrison's significant contributions to the Abstract Expressionist movement and the New York School, highlighting his urban aesthetic inspirations rooted in his love of New York, which he called a 'Magical City.' The exhibition culminates in his Horizon series and includes rare archival materials that place Morrison at the heart of the Abstract Expressionist movement alongside artists like Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, and Louise Nevelson.
