About the Exhibition
Gary Weekes's new exhibit is a display of portraits on used baking trays. Weekes uses the trays to show the diversity of skin tones and history within New Brunswick's Black community. The work is partially inspired by scarification, a cultural practice in Western Africa of scarring skin to represent someone's home or affiliations. The trays also represent times of slavery and lynching in the U.S. The exhibit features 13 baking tray portraits of Black community members.
