Welcome to the Woods
About the Exhibition
The exhibition features work by Courtney Cecil '26, showcasing the natural world and wildlife of northern Wisconsin. The dominant medium is film photography, developed through a Mentored Advanced Project (MAP) in summer 2024 where Cecil learned to use film cameras and develop her own film. The exhibition includes photography of lakes, wildlife (otters, turtles, blue herons), and scenes evoking the northern Wisconsin wilderness. The show features a sculpted deer head named 'Melvin' next to a large print of a log cabin, and the wall is meant to evoke the feeling of a typical rustic log cabin found across northern Wisconsin. The work is significantly influenced by Cecil's family and their shared love of the outdoors, with fishing photos inspired by her childhood and blue herons included as her grandmother's favorite bird.
