Wistfulness & Whimsy

This exhibition by Burnsville artist Melissa L. Flattery features contemporary abstract art in more than a dozen media. The exhibit includes several pieces from her 'Cairn' colorfield series evoking the joy of discovering precariously balanced stones on the beach and ethereal light shimmering through water. It also showcases her quilling artwork - the art of coiling strips of paper which she elevates by hand-coloring, cutting and gilding archival paper. The 'River' series captures the local blues and greens of Appalachian rivers, along with playful papier-mâché lanterns and carved ostrich and emu eggs. The exhibition incorporates exuberant color and a broad variety of media.
