18th & Vine Garage Public Artwork Commission

Kansas City's One Percent for Art Program seeks professional artists to create permanent public artwork for the new 18th & Lydia Parking Garage.

Kansas City's One Percent for Art Program has reopened its call for professional artists and artist teams to create permanent public artwork for the new 18th & Lydia Parking Garage in the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. This opportunity follows community feedback regarding the previous selection process, which did not include Black or local artists as semifinalists.

The selected artist or artist team will receive up to $165,000 to design, fabricate, and install a signature piece that will help define the next chapter of this culturally significant neighborhood. The garage project will reconstruct the surface lot at 18th Street and Lydia Avenue as part of Revive the Vine, the city's $400 million reinvestment initiative in the 18th & Vine Jazz District.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a professional visual artist or artist team
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be located in specific counties: Missouri (Andrew, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell, Cass, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte, Ray) or Kansas (Atchison, Doniphan, Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, Wyandotte)

This is an excellent opportunity for regional artists to contribute to a major public art installation in a historically important Kansas City neighborhood while receiving substantial funding for their work.
