2026 Dewey Square Mural Commission
Seven finalists selected for Boston's iconic public mural honoring America's 250th anniversary. $25,000 artist fee plus $50,000 production budget.
The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, in partnership with Embrace and Everyone250, has announced seven finalists for the 2026 Dewey Square Mural following the first-ever national open call for this prestigious site. The selected finalists are: Brooke Stewart and Daniela Rivera (collaborative team), Destiny Palmer, Ekua Holmes, Escif, Jasmine Chen, and Rixy.
These seven finalists were chosen by a distinguished panel of Boston artists, cultural leaders, and community members. They represent diverse approaches to art-making, including muralism, abstract and figurative painting, illustration, collage-based work, printmaking, and sculpture that engage with concepts of history, belonging, materiality, and public space.
Each finalist will receive a $5,000 honorarium to develop a full mural proposal. One artist or artist team will be selected to realize the 2026 mural and will be awarded a $25,000 artist fee and a $50,000 production budget. All finalists will present their proposals to the Dewey Square Artist Selection Committee during the last week of January 2026, with the commissioned artist announced on February 10, 2026.
The four runners-up will have their proposals and other work displayed on 2-D panels installed at Dewey Square Plaza from June 2026 to December 2026. Since 2012, the Dewey Square Mural has served as a focal point for bold, contemporary public art in downtown Boston, with ten murals installed to date viewed by millions of residents, commuters, and tourists.
