2026 DRWC Flag Exhibition - Roots of Resilience

National/international artists invited to create flag designs celebrating Philadelphia's immigrant communities. $300 honorarium + production costs covered.

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) invites national and international artists to submit proposals for their 2026 Flag Exhibition at Spruce Street Harbor Park. For the third consecutive year, sixteen selected artists will have large pennant flags printed and produced, with all production costs covered by DRWC and each recipient receiving a $300 honorarium. The exhibition will run during the 2026 Spring and Summer seasons. The thematic prompt "Roots of Resilience" encourages artists to explore Philadelphia's history as a central immigration hub, investigating diverse narratives, cultures, and contributions of immigrant communities that have shaped the city's identity. Flags should embody the spirit of resilience experienced by immigrants to Philadelphia, highlighting stories of hope, change, and interconnectedness. Artists can draw inspiration from historical events, cultural traditions, and personal stories reflecting the immigrant experience. While final flags will be digitally printed, artists may submit high-quality images of physical artwork including paintings, textiles, sculptures, or mixed media to represent their visions. The goal is to celebrate the tapestry of cultures that continue to enrich Philadelphia and inspire future generations.
