2026 Unmistakable Public Art Exhibition - Soccer Theme

Open call for local and regional artists to create World Cup-themed public art for Lawrence's 2026 temporary exhibition celebrating soccer/fútbol.

The City of Lawrence and the Cultural Arts Commission are pleased to announce an open call for local and regional artists to participate in the 2026 temporary Unmistakable Public Art Exhibition (UPAE). Formerly known as the Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition (ODSE), this annual event has been showcasing artists since 1988. The 2026 program has been specially adapted to celebrate the World Cup 2026, as the global spotlight turns to the United States, Kansas City, and Lawrence during the June and early July tournament. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for artists and artist teams to create new public artwork that honors the world's game through the power of public art. The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Lawrence and overseen by the Cultural Arts Commission. Artists are invited to let their creativity take the field and help Lawrence celebrate the spirit of soccer/fútbol through innovative public art installations. This temporary exhibition provides an exceptional platform for artists to reach both local communities and international visitors during this historic sporting event.
