2027 Deer Lake Artist Residencies

Artist-in-residence program in Burnaby offering 2-6 week residencies with housing, studios, and community engagement opportunities.

The City of Burnaby invites professional artists to participate in a unique artist-in-residence program lasting two to six weeks. Set in the natural beauty of Deer Lake Park, this program provides artists with dedicated time and space to examine, create, and refine their artistic practice while engaging with the community.

The residency is open to visual artists, performers, musicians, land-based practitioners, poets, writers, ceramicists, and artists working in other disciplines. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.

Accommodations consist of two heritage homes: Baldwin House, a 1963 design by renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson, and Eagles Estate, built in 1929. Art studios and community engagement spaces are available at the Arts Centre, Gallery, and Museum, with additional access to Burnaby Public Library, parks, and recreation/community centers.

The program location on the ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) peoples offers an inspiring environment for artistic exploration. Cultural amenities include the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Art Gallery, and Burnaby Village Museum.

Residencies include housing and/or studio use. The program supports artistic development and community engagement throughout the residency period.
