AfriMus Residency for African Electronic Artists

4-week residency in Belgium for African sound artists with €10,000 production budget and €3,000 final work budget. Open to East/South Africa residents.

The AfriMus musical residency is a comprehensive program designed to highlight contemporary urban and electronic music scenes from Africa. Organized by the AfricaMuseum in Belgium with partners Nyege Nyege (Uganda) and The Black Power Station (South Africa), this residency offers significant financial support and professional development opportunities. Selected artists receive a €10,000 production budget for creating audio-visual projects in Africa from March-June 2026, followed by a 4-week residency at the AfricaMuseum in Belgium during September-October 2026. The program covers all travel, accommodation, and provides €44 daily per diem plus €400 weekly artist fees. An additional €3,000 budget supports the final audio-visual or sound work presented to the Belgian public. The residency aims to strengthen visibility and professional networks for African musicians while encouraging dialogue on African musical heritage and decolonization of ethnographic collections. Participants will create works for the museum's permanent collection and engage public audiences through workshops, masterclasses, or rehearsals. The program specifically targets artists engaged in African electronic music or sound-based practices, with eligibility limited to residents of Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, or South Africa who hold valid European travel passports.
