Am I Allowed In? Juried Exhibition Open Call

The Gallery at the Cathedral of the Incarnation seeks artists and writers for a juried exhibition exploring belonging, exclusion, faith, and identity.

The Gallery at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY announces an open call for artists and writers for "Am I Allowed In?" - a juried contemporary exhibition exploring profound questions of belonging, exclusion, faith, doubt, identity, and the thresholds that define our lives. The exhibition title poses a simple yet profound question that resonates at doorways, within communities, in faith traditions, and within ourselves.

Participating artists are invited to explore how access, permission, visibility, and welcome are granted or withheld in personal, cultural, and sacred spaces through various media. According to curator Jennifer A. Uihlein, "This exhibition is about inquiry rather than answers. It asks artists to reflect on moments of entry and exclusion, and to consider how art itself can function as a threshold—inviting viewers to step inside complex conversations around belonging, belief, and identity."

The Gallery welcomes submissions from artists and writers of all backgrounds and lived experiences. Artists do not need to be religious or affiliated with the Cathedral to participate, and all perspectives are encouraged. Accepted media includes visual art, photography, poetry, writing, small sculpture, and audio work.

The exhibition runs from February 22 to March 22, 2026, at The Gallery at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, a contemporary exhibition space located in the neo-gothic Cathedral built in 1885. The Gallery serves as a premier venue for civic, artistic, and cultural events on Long Island, presenting thoughtful, inclusive, and engaging work that bridges art, inquiry, and community.
