Art for Peace Initiative - Cambodian Artists

Cambodian artists create collaborative public artwork in Siem Reap calling for peace amid border violence affecting thousands of civilians.

In response to escalating violence along the Cambodia-Thailand border, Cambodian artists organized a collaborative art initiative titled 'Art for Peace' in Siem Reap. On December 22, 2025, dozens of painters gathered at a public park near Preah Ang Chek–Preah Ang Chorm to create a massive collaborative canvas. The artwork measures five meters high and 30 meters long, using dark hues and fractured forms to depict civilians caught in conflict and urge an end to hostilities. The installation was unveiled at one of Siem Reap's most symbolic cultural sites, serving as a public plea for peace and resilience. According to Cambodia's Interior Ministry, the ongoing border conflict has resulted in at least 19 civilian deaths and 79 injuries since December 7, 2025, with over 525,000 people displaced, including nearly 170,000 children. The destruction includes homes, schools, health centers, pagodas, temples, bridges, and markets across Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, and Pursat provinces. Artists described the scale of damage as compelling them to use their creative talents as a means of advocacy and community response to the crisis. This initiative demonstrates how artists can mobilize collectively to address social and political issues through visual expression.
