Art in Motion: WE-cycle Bikeshare Art Program
Aspen Public Art and WE-cycle seek 5 artists to display work on bikeshare bikes and kiosks. $1,500 stipend per artist.
Aspen Public Art and WE-cycle are collaborating on the 'Art in Motion' series, a mobile art gallery initiative that brings local artwork to Aspen's WE-cycle bicycles and kiosks. This program showcases the talents of Valley artists while promoting sustainable transportation throughout the community.
The organizations are accepting applications for five licensing opportunities for artists to display their work during the 2026 bikeshare season, which runs from May through October. The displayed art will be featured on over 100 bikes and at 38 kiosk locations throughout Aspen.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Artists must be 16 years or older
- Must reside in the Roaring Fork Valley
- Each selected artist receives a $1,500 stipend
Design Guidelines:
Artists are encouraged to submit bold, vibrant designs with strong graphic impacts that can be appreciated from a distance while rewarding closer viewing. Acceptable mediums include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, illustration, mixed media, collage, and 3D works of art.
Selection Criteria:
A selection committee will evaluate applications based on three criteria, each weighted as follows:
- Merit of the artwork (40%)
- Suitability and fit of artwork to templates and design criteria (40%)
- Commitment to the artist's pursuit (20%)
