Art in the Roundabouts - Phase 2 Call for Artists

Village of Oak Creek seeking artists nationwide for roundabout public art installations along State Route 179 with community themes.

The Village of Oak Creek (VOC) Art in the Roundabouts Committee is launching Phase 2 of their public art initiative, seeking artists to create sculptures for two additional roundabouts along State Route 179. This is a significant community art project that will beautify the village with permanent installations.

Phase 1 successfully installed the first two artworks: "Village Treasures" by Reagan Word at the Verde Valley School Road roundabout and "Dream Catcher" by Chris Navarro at the Cortez Drive roundabout. Phase 2 will focus on roundabouts at the Ridge Trail Drive and Bell Rock Boulevard intersections.

The project is managed by the Sedona Village Main Street Partnership, a nonprofit organization created in 2024 specifically for this initiative. The roundabouts were originally designed with art installations in mind, and community themes have already been established through a community poll conducted at the beginning of the project.

The selection process includes a nationwide call for artist submissions meeting established criteria. Once submissions are received and reviewed, a public event will be held (previously hosted at the library) to present finalists to the community. The Arizona Department of Transportation has approved installations, the Sedona Area Garden Club handled landscape design, and the Arizona Community Foundation provides long-term maintenance funding.

This is an opportunity for artists to create meaningful public art that will be permanently installed and maintained. The project demonstrates strong community support, local partnerships, and dedicated funding structures. Artists of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, though previous selections have included local artists.
