Art on a Stick Public Art Project
Detroit Lakes seeks artists for second round of public art installation on popsicle-shaped sculptures at city parks.
The Detroit Lakes Arts and Culture Commission is seeking artist submissions for the second year of its innovative "Art on a Stick" public art project. This rotating art installation features 12 double-sided, popsicle-shaped metal sculptures installed at four Detroit Lakes city parks: City Park, Long Lake Park, South Shore Park, and Crovisier Park.
The project will display 24 new pieces of art on vinyl wraps that cover the sculptures, allowing artwork to be rotated and replaced annually. The concept celebrates the idea that art can be found everywhere, even on sticks. The selected artwork will remain on display through May 2027.
This opportunity is open to all artists regardless of age, skill level, or media used. Artists may submit up to two different designs as high-resolution photos in PDF, JPG, PSD, TIFF, or PNG formats. There is no set theme this year, but artwork must be formatted for vertical display on the popsicle sculptures.
Selected artists will retain all copyright and intellectual property rights to their work. While artists will not receive payment for their designs, they will be credited as 2026 Artists on the Project 412 website and through city public relations, providing valuable portfolio recognition and community exposure.
The project is funded by Project 412 Wavemakers and a Blandin Foundation grant. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to gain public visibility, contribute to community beautification, and be part of an innovative public art initiative.
