Artbook Contest for Young Artists Aged 9-18
Long Beach-Qingdao Association invites students to submit artwork for a Lunar New Year artbook contest with celebration event.
The Long Beach-Qingdao Association (LBQA), a Sister City organization of Long Beach, is hosting its annual artbook contest and celebration for the 2024-2025 school year. This is an exciting opportunity for young artists aged 9-18 to showcase their creativity and have their work featured in a collaborative international art project.
Last year's inaugural contest was a tremendous success, with 35 students from Long Beach and 35 from Qingdao, China submitting artwork. The winning and selected pieces were transformed into unique products including quilts, jigsaw puzzles, and mugs, creating tangible connections between the two sister cities through art.
This year's contest features two creative prompts for artists to choose from: "The Year of the Horse" and "How do you celebrate Lunar New Year?" These themes encourage students to explore cultural traditions and personal connections to the Lunar New Year celebration.
The organization welcomes submissions from Long Beach students and anyone with a connection to Long Beach. Selected artists will be celebrated at a special event at the new 2nd and PCH mall in Long Beach, providing recognition and exposure for young creative talent.
Submitted artwork may be used by the LBQA for various purposes including merchandise creation, exhibition displays, and promotional materials. This contest offers a unique opportunity for young artists to have their work displayed internationally and potentially transformed into products that bridge cultures and communities.
