Artisans on the Beach is an annual festive event in Swanage where artists and crafters take over beach huts along Shore Road to sell unique handmade Christmas gifts and artwork. The event runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until December 21st, 2025, with extended weekends due to popular demand. Nearly 40 artisans are operating from 25 beach huts, offering everything from paintings and handmade jewelry to glassware and festive wreaths. The event has grown significantly since its inception in 2014 and attracts visitors from across Dorset and beyond. All items sold must be handmade, ensuring quality and authenticity. The event is expected to be especially busy when Swanage's Christmas market opens on December 6th, 2025. Participating artisans compete for best-dressed hut awards voted on by public visitors. Recent award winners include Styled By Stevie (gold - quirky beaded jewelry), Hilary Seal (gold - shell mirrors and wreaths), Marita Morgan (silver - handcrafted silver jewelry), Tracy Stressing (bronze - glass decorations), and Kate Gwilliam (bronze - felt decorations and illustrations). The event provides excellent exposure for local creative businesses and draws foot traffic to other local shops and cafes.
