The City of Grand Junction and the Commission on Arts and Culture is seeking six artists to create original artwork for the upcoming Community Recreation Center currently under construction. This is a significant opportunity for visual artists to contribute to a major public project.
The opportunity includes creating artwork for multiple spaces within the recreation center:
- Mural designs for the Child Watch room
- Mural design for the Mezzanine Fitness studio
- Mural design for the Community Room
- Original artwork for a Story Wall
- Design for a Recognition Wall
- Design for an acoustic panel in the Community Lounge
All artwork should utilize the design threads and color palettes outlined in the official artist call guidelines. The selection process offers artists a two-month window to develop and assemble their proposals.
This project is funded through the City's 1% for the Arts Program, which expands opportunities for residents and visitors to experience high-quality art by facilitating the acquisition and display of art in public places through budget allocation of 1% for public art from certain city capital improvement projects.
The selection panel will consist of representatives from the City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture. For detailed information and guidelines, artists should visit gjcity.org under the Arts and Culture tab.
