Arts Opportunities: Fellowships, Poet & Artist Calls

Multiple art opportunities in LA County including fellowships, youth poet laureate, book donations, and artist exhibition space.

Local artists and young creatives in the Los Angeles area have several exciting opportunities to advance their careers and showcase their work. Arts for LA is opening applications for their ACTIVATE Delegates and Emerging Arts Leaders 2026 program, designed for anyone in LA County seeking to gain skills, resources, and access to an expanded network to effect change in the greater LA arts and culture sector. An info session will be held on December 10, with applications due by January 7, 2026.

The Long Beach Public Library and Arts Council for Long Beach, supported by Urban Word NYC, have launched the 2026 Long Beach Youth Poet Laureate program. This annual initiative celebrates young writers and community leaders who use poetry to inspire change and uplift their voices. Applications are open for Long Beach residents ages 13 to 18.

Angels Gate Cultural Center is currently collecting children's chapter books for use during Arts + Exploration Field Trips. Donated books will help hundreds of students create blackout poetry inspired by the gallery's current exhibition, Sustainers of Life. Blackout poetry is a creative technique where poets take existing text and use markers to black out most words, leaving select words that form new poems.

Local artists are invited to apply for House 1002's In-House Artist Call, a rotating spotlight program offering 300+ square feet of warehouse exhibition space at 1002 S. Pacific Ave. in San Pedro. Selected artists receive creative freedom across all mediums, their own opening reception with refreshments, promotion, and up to one month of public display during shop hours. The space is open Wednesday and Thursday 12-5 p.m., Friday 12-7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday 12-5 p.m. This opportunity is free to apply for.
