Arts/Industry 2027 Artist Residency
Three-month funded residency at Kohler Co. for artists to create works in ceramics, cast iron, and brass with full support.
The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is now accepting applications for the 2027 Arts/Industry residency, a prestigious three-month artist-in-residence program hosted by Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wisconsin. Since its establishment in 1974, this celebrated residency has provided opportunities for more than 600 artists to develop their practice through industrial art-making.
The program hosts four artists at a time, with two residents working in the Kohler Co. Pottery and two in the Foundry. Participants will have the opportunity to produce ambitious new works in vitreous china, cast iron, and brass. No advance experience with clay or metal is required—only genuine interest in adapting industrial processes to your artistic practice.
Residency Benefits:
- 24/7 studio access
- Free industrial materials and equipment use
- Technical support from Kohler Co. staff
- Professional photographic documentation services
- Furnished housing
- Round-trip transportation
- Monthly honorarium
Artists may choose to work in either the Pottery or Foundry, allowing for specialization based on individual artistic goals. The residency is a collaboration between the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nonprofit arts organization, and Kohler Co., the global kitchen and bath manufacturing company. The program is funded by both organizations.
This is an exceptional opportunity for artists seeking to expand their practice through access to industrial facilities, materials, and expertise that would be difficult to obtain independently. The program supports artists across all career stages and artistic disciplines who wish to engage with industrial processes and materials.
