Azrieli Music Prizes 2028 Call for Proposals

Biennial composition prizes with $50,000 CAD cash award, world premiere, and professional recording for chamber music works.

Canada's Azrieli Music, Arts and Culture Centre (AMACC) has opened a Call for Proposals for the 2028 Azrieli Music Prizes, celebrating excellence in composition. These are among the most substantial composition prizes in Canada.

The prize package includes:
- $50,000 CAD cash prize
- Commission for a new work
- World premiere performance
- Two subsequent international performances
- Professional commercial recording

For the 2028 cycle, commissions are for chamber music works for up to 15 musicians. The winning compositions will be premiered by Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne at the AMP Concert Gala in Autumn 2028 in Montréal.

Three commissions will be awarded across these categories:
1. Azrieli Commission for Jewish Music
2. Azrieli Commission for Canadian Music
3. Azrieli Commission for International Music

The Prizes are open to composers of all nationalities, genders, faiths, and backgrounds. Past winners include Hana Ajiashvili, Nicholas Denton Protsack, Adrian Mocanu, and Dalit Hadass Warshaw (2026), among many other acclaimed composers.

Dr. Sharon Azrieli, Chair of the Azrieli Music, Arts and Culture Centre, states that the organization asks composers to engage deeply with specific questions tied to each Prize theme, offering one of the most generous prize packages in the world to launch their music into the repertoire.
