Bayfront Wall Murals Design Commission
Newport and Oregon Coast Council for the Arts seek local artists to design three 4x8-foot murals for U.S. Coast Guard complex wall.
The City of Newport and the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) are inviting local artists to submit designs for a new series of public art murals to be installed on the U.S. Coast Guard complex wall located at 250-300 S.W. Bay Blvd. in Newport.
This is an excellent opportunity for artists to create significant public artwork that will enhance the Bayfront area. The project aims to showcase Newport's rich heritage through public art that reflects the city's coastal environment, fishing industry, ocean sciences history, and Coast Guard presence.
The commission involves three murals to be painted on marine-grade plywood panels measuring 4-by-8 feet each. The panels will be installed side-by-side vertically, creating a striking visual installation. Selected artists will receive compensation between $1,600 and $3,200 based on mural size. OCCA will provide all necessary materials including the panels, paint, and varnish, reducing out-of-pocket costs for participating artists.
Eligibility is limited to residents of Lincoln County. All artwork must be original design and suitable for all ages, ensuring the murals are appropriate for a public space accessible to the entire community.
Artists may submit up to three design sketches per mural for consideration. The submission deadline is December 19, 2025. Selected artists will be notified in February 2026, with installation scheduled to occur in spring 2026.
This opportunity provides artists with a platform to contribute to their community while receiving fair compensation for their creative work. The murals will serve as permanent installations celebrating Newport's cultural and historical significance.
