Birmingham Southside District Mural Commission

Create a 20-metre mural highlighting domestic abuse support services. $10,000 funding available. Deadline: 29 March 2024.

Birmingham City Council is seeking artists to design and create a large-scale mural on a 20-metre wide hoarding at the corner of Hurst Street and Smallbrook Queensway in the Southside District. This opportunity is part of the international 'Inform Women, Transform Lives' campaign funded by the Carter Centre, which aims to educate women about accessing vital services and information.

The mural will highlight how women can access domestic abuse support services and information. The site, located on the former Oceana nightclub, is approximately 20 metres wide and 2 metres high, with designs required to be at least 10 metres wide. The successful artist will receive $10,000 (approximately £7,900) in funding.

Birmingham was selected as one of 12 international cities participating in this global campaign led by the Carter Centre. The mural will be seen by approximately 300,000 people per week, providing significant visibility for the support services being promoted.
