Black History Month Exhibit at Evanston Public Library

Call for artists to submit work celebrating Black history and culture for February 2026 exhibition at Evanston Public Library.

The Evanston Public Library is calling for artists and creatives to submit artwork that highlights and recognizes the lived experience and spirit of Black history and culture. This exhibition celebrates Black History Month in February 2026, with the theme "A Century of Black History Commemorations" from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

Accepted visual art mediums include: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, textile, decorative arts, digital art and design, and poetry.

Submission Specifications:
- Hanging art pieces: maximum 40 inches wide by 30 inches high
- Sculptures: smaller than 2 feet by 2 feet, weighing no more than 30 pounds
- Pieces will be included based on available space

Exhibition Details:
- Installation Date: Friday, February 6, 2026
- Display Location: Third floor of Evanston Public Library main branch
- Display Dates: February 6 through February 28, 2026

The library retains sole authority over evaluating, selecting, displaying, and scheduling all artist exhibitions. While controversial works will not be excluded based on subject matter, community standards may be applied considering the diverse age range of library patrons. This is an excellent opportunity for local artists to gain visibility and contribute to meaningful cultural programming.
