Bluffton Public Art Committee - Artist Roster

Join Bluffton's pre-approved public artist roster for commissions and installations across town parks and public spaces.

The Town of Bluffton's Public Art Committee invites artists to join its roster of pre-approved public artists for future public art opportunities. The committee, established in October 2023, implements the Town Council's public art policy and actively seeks artists to create work across Bluffton's parks, public buildings, and gathering spaces.

The committee recently commissioned "The Pearl," a steel spherical sculpture by artist Brandy Scholl, which was selected through a competitive process from invited roster artists. The sculpture, valued at $30,800, features laser-cut illustrations depicting the May River, native wildlife, and key historical figures including the Wright family and the Gullah Geechee community.

Artists interested in being considered for future public art commissions should understand that the selection process involves submitting design proposals in response to specific calls for artists. The committee seeks thoughtful interpretations that reflect Bluffton's history, culture, and natural beauty. Previous commissions have included permanent installations at Wright Family Park and the Squire Pope Carriage House.

The Public Art Committee continues to identify new opportunities for artwork across multiple venues and gathering spaces throughout Bluffton. Artists selected for the roster may be invited to submit proposals for future projects. Successful artists should demonstrate strong conceptual thinking, technical excellence, and the ability to create work that enhances public spaces and engages community members.

For artists interested in joining the roster or learning about upcoming calls for art, the primary contact is Felicia Roth at the Town of Bluffton. She can provide information about the artist roster application process, submission requirements, and upcoming opportunities.
