BMW ART MAKERS 2026 - Artist-Curator Programme

BMW Group France launches fifth edition of its patronage programme for emerging artists and curators, celebrating photography's bicentenary.

BMW Group France is opening applications for the 2026 edition of BMW ART MAKERS, its patronage programme dedicated to emerging creativity and contemporary imagery. This exceptional edition celebrates the bicentenary of Nicéphore Niépce's invention of photography in 1826, inviting artist-curator duos to propose forward-looking projects that explore the links between image, innovation, and transformation.

The programme supports selected duos in creating and installing an art project that will be presented in two major exhibitions: Rencontres d'Arles and Paris Photo. Each selected duo receives comprehensive support including a €10,000 grant for the artist, €8,000 grant for the curator, and €15,000 budget for research and production of works. Additional support includes professional coordination and communication assistance.

Projects should innovate or experiment with photographic medium, design thoughtful scenography suitable for reuse across exhibitions, prioritize responsible resource use, and question current issues from an artistic perspective. The programme encourages exploration of relationships between movement, progress, and image-making in the context of intelligent, human-centered, and sustainable mobility.

BMW has maintained over 50 years of cultural patronage, supporting emerging talents who have achieved major international recognition. The company has longstanding partnerships with Paris Photo (23 years) and Rencontres Photographiques d'Arles (15 years), making this an exceptional opportunity for emerging artists to gain visibility in prestigious international photography venues.
