Call for Choreographers: CounterPointe13
Women choreographers sought for new work with visual artist collaborators. Performances March 20-22, 2026 in Brooklyn. $700 fee.
Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts and Gleich Dances announce the 13th annual CounterPointe program, seeking women choreographers based in the NYC-metro area to create new works in collaboration with visual artists. This innovative program celebrates diverse artistic voices and encourages experimental creative processes.
The program features performances on March 20-22, 2026, at The Mark O'Donnell Theater at the Entertainment Community Fund in Brooklyn. A defining requirement is that pointe shoes must be incorporated into the choreography. There is no specific house style; the program welcomes cultural diversity and varied artistic approaches.
Selected choreographers will be paired with visual artist collaborators curated by Norte Maar. Participants will have approximately two months to develop and create new work together. Both choreographers and artists receive a $700 fee for their participation.
A core goal of CounterPointe is to explore innovative artistic processes, encourage risk-taking, and foster connections among choreographers, dancers, and visual artists. The program emphasizes collaboration as a vehicle for artistic growth and experimentation.
Choreographers are responsible for selecting, rehearsing, and paying their own dancers. Limited free or discounted studio space may be available through Norte Maar. Commissioned works must be new and cannot have been presented in the NYC/metro area within two months before or after the CounterPointe program. Future productions should credit Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts.
