Call for Entries: Wearable Art Parade
Submit creative wearable art for MICA's Fête of Lights celebration. Up to 40 looks selected, with cash prizes and complimentary tickets.
MICA is reviving The Fête of Lights, a beloved annual celebration of art, design, and light, to mark the college's Bicentennial in 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for MICA students, alumni, staff, and faculty to showcase their creativity through wearable art and costumes. The event will take place on February 21, 2026, featuring a Gala in the Main Building and a Party at Cohen Plaza, with a curated parade of wearable art traveling from the Main Building to Cohen Plaza and into the Brown Center. Up to 40 individual looks will be selected through a jury review process. Selected participants will receive complimentary event tickets and be eligible for cash prizes awarded by the jury. All submissions must relate to the theme of light, including celestial bodies, electricity, flames, mirrors and reflection, glowing colors, or neon. Submissions can include photographs, sketches, and written descriptions. Works may be in progress but must be completable by the event date. Selected participants must attend a brief rehearsal on February 20th from 2-3 pm and check in by 6 pm on the day of the event. A dedicated changing area will be available in the Main Building. Electronic components are permitted, but open flames are prohibited. Participants should wear comfortable shoes as the parade will be outdoors in February on Mount Royal Avenue. Accommodations for limited mobility will be provided. Guidelines require that looks be joyful and celebratory of MICA's legacy, and emphasize that cultures are not costumes—submissions should avoid stereotyping or masquerading as cultures not the submitter's own.
