Call for Scores: QMM 2026 Flute Festival
Queer Music Midwest seeks original flute compositions for 2026 festival. Deadline: February 21, 2026. Performance guaranteed for selected works.
Queer Music Midwest (QMM) has announced a call for scores for its 2026 festival, inviting submissions from queer composers and those with connections to Nebraska or the wider Midwestern United States. Selected works will be performed by renowned flutists Bridget Hill and Rose Khorsandi on April 11, 2026, at BLIXT Arts Lab in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This is an excellent opportunity for composers seeking to have their work professionally performed and promoted. The festival celebrates diverse voices and experiences within queer and Midwestern music communities, making it an inclusive platform for emerging and established composers.
Compositions must be written for one or two C flutes with a duration of 3 to 7 minutes. Composers may submit only one original score. The festival seeks works that reflect the diversity and richness of queer and Midwestern musical traditions.
The opportunity is open to queer composers and composers with ties to Nebraska or the Midwest. There is no entry fee, and while travel and accommodation are not funded by QMM, there is no requirement to attend the festival in person. This makes it accessible to composers regardless of location.
Submissions should be made via the official online form available on the Queer Music Midwest website, with full guidelines and eligibility details provided there. The submission deadline is February 21, 2026.
Selected composers will have their works professionally performed and potentially recorded, providing valuable exposure and professional recognition. This is a significant opportunity for composers to gain performance credits and expand their artistic visibility within the contemporary classical music community.
